The 2017 free Kids Fish Day was held on Saturday, April 29, at the Meadow Brook Pond, 4543 South M-88, in Bellaire, Michigan.
The Meadow Brook pond was stocked with 1000 coaster brook trout and 700 rainbow trout. Plus there were many fish still left from the past years. These trout are provided by the Bellaire Conservation Club and the Friends of The Jordan River National Fish Hatchery - with gracious donations from businesses and private donors in our community.
Each child was allowed to catch up to 3 fish each. The average trout range in size from 10 - 13 inches long, with several well over 20 inches.
The largest fish caught this year was a 28" rainbow! WOW!!!
Fifty (50) of the rainbows were tagged, and the lucky anglers got a shiny silver dollar. Prize packages awarded for the 10 largest fish caught plus the first fish caught and the smallest fish. Free trees for everyone attending, and lots of other goodies and information was made available.
Volunteers run all of the Bellaire Conservation Club programs. For Kids Fish Day in 2017, we had 227 young anglers participate. Most went home with their limit of fish. Your donations, our membership dues, and a lot of volunteer work make this all possible.
